How to Build Modular Bookcase

Wood boxes are available from a variety of sources, including orchards, wineries and antique shops.  Wash the boxes thoroughly with a solution of acetic two parts, one part hydrogen peroxide and two portions of hot water. Be sure to clean both the inside and the outside of the box. Let them dry completely. Sand boxes with a medium grade sandpaper.

Paint or stain wooden boxes in a color that coordinates with the fabric you have chosen modular bookcase. Let the paint or stain to dry thoroughly. Measure the inside bottom of a box. Use this measurement to cut a foam core piece, which sits in the box bottom. Repeat to make eleven more foam core pieces. Add 1/2 inch to the measurement box at the bottom and cut a fabric square to fit over the foam board of directors paragraph. Repeat to make eleven more fabric squares.

Place the fabric square face down on a flat surface. Setting the foam piece of board of directors in the center of the fabric. Apply hot glue along the edge of the foam board. While holding the fabric as tightly as possible, fold the edges over the table; Press down gently. Fit fabric covered foam board inside the wooden boxes for modular bookcase. They should fit snug enough to stay in when you turn the box upside down. If they do not, add some hot glue on the bottom and press down.
